Minimally invasive spine surgery
Dr. Bitan is a world leader in minimally invasive spine surgery techniques. He meets with every patient individually to determine which kind of surgery will help them the most.
-
XLIF - Extreme lateral interbody fusion (XLIF) is a minimally invasive procedure performed through the side of the body to treat spinal disorders and reduce long-term back or leg pain that has not responded to other treatments, such as steroid injections, physical therapy and pain medication.
-
Endoscopic spine surgery - Using special instrumentation and video cameras, Dr. Bitan performs disc surgery through extremely small incisions (about the diameter of a penny). This procedure minimizes damage to muscles and tissue and may result in a faster recovery. This minimally invasive spine surgery is used to relieve pain caused by herniated discs pressing on nerve roots.
Artificial Disc Replacement (Lumbar and Cervical)
Dr. Bitan is a pioneer in artificial disc replacement surgery and was the first physician to perform this procedure in the United States. He has now conducted more than 1,000 artificial disc replacement surgeries, relieving patients of chronic pain and transforming their ability to lead active lives.
For some patients with severe back pain and damaged discs, artificial disc replacement is a better long-term option that spinal fusion. Disc replacement can help prevent stress on the spine and offer better long-term mobility. It can also reduce the risk of needing a second surgery years later.
Dr. Bitan is happy to discuss whether you are a good candidate for artificial disc replacement.
